COMPANY OWNED – DEALER OPERATED SCHEME (CODO)

What is a CODO?
A CODO scheme is when TOTAL appoints you as the Dealer of a Total service station.

What are the requirements?
You need to initially write a letter to TOTAL signifying your intention to operate or become a TOTAL service station dealer and state your preferred area of operation. The letter should be addressed to:

 If chosen, you would be required to present a business case to Vice President, Sales & Marketing and team chosen by the Vice-President. Format of the business case will be forwarded before the Presentation.

How much do I need to invest?
You need to invest a minimum of 100k FJD for your working capital. The amount may vary depending on the projected volume of the service station.

What is the term of the Dealership Agreement?
Five (5) years, renewable for another period of Five (5) years under mutually agreed terms and conditions.

What are the other requirements?
You are required to take a Dealer Training Course for three (3) weeks to familiarize yourself with service station management and operations. Your Forecourt Service Crew (gasoline attendants), Station Manager and Cashiers are required also to undergo classroom and hands-on training.

DEALER OWNED–DEALER OPERATED SCHEME (DODO)

What is a DODO?
A DODO is the operation of a Total service station where the Dealer will co-invest with TOTAL for the development and construction of the service station.

Do I have to own the Property?
Not necessarily.You can 1) Own the property where the service station will be constructed or; 2) Lease the property from a third party of your choice or from a third party Total is leasing from.

What are the requirements of the property?

  • Lot Size-Minimum of 2,500 sq. m.
  • Frontage -Minimum of 35 meters
  • Classified as Commercial or Industrial Titled property and has no informal settlers
  • With no court case or caveat
  • No informal settlers

The property will also be inspected by Total’s Retail Developer to determine its acceptability.

What is the condition of the Lease Contract?
The Lease Contract will have a minimum period of ten (5) years. The contract will be registered and annotated in the Transfer Certificate of Title with the Local Register of Deeds.

How much do I need to invest?
You need to invest an average of 500k FJD to construct the service station following Total’s standards. This amount may vary depending on the size and location of the service station. You also should be ready with about 100k FJD working capital. The amount may likewise vary depending on the volume potential of the service station.

What will I and Total be responsible for?
The delineation of responsibilities is as follows:

  • Painting of the Service Station
  • Underground Tanks and piping including installation

How long does it take to build the service station?
From the time that all the required government permits from the Local and national government have been secured, the construction period is on the average four (4) months. This varies depending on the size and facilities to be installed.

If I am currently operating a service station (Dealer Owned) under a different brand, can I convert my service station into the TOTAL brand? 

Absolutely. Your service station can be converted upon meeting the following conditions:

  1. Your Dealer Agreement or Supply Agreement with your current brand has expired or can be pre-terminated;
  2. The service station has not committed major violations at the local and national government levels;
  3. The Retail Developer of TOTAL has determined the acceptability of the service station design, potential and location.

What are the training requirements? 
You are required to take a Dealer Training Course for three (3) weeks to familiarize yourself with the service station management & operation. Your Forecourt Staff  (gasoline attendants), Station Manager and Cashiers are required also to undergo classroom and hands-on training.

What is TOTAL’s operational requirement?
A TOTAL service station is generally open for 24 hours, but operating hours may change depending on the trading area.

What is the product delivery mode?
A Total-accredited lorry (tank truck) will deliver the fuel products to your station based on your order. Order is place a day before delivery. Delivery is on Cash on Delivery basis.

Will TOTAL support me with local promotions and marketing programs?
Yes, TOTAL can provide support for local promotional activities and marketing programs. Details can be provided to you by your local Area Sales Manager or Retail Sales Executive.

There are options in offering a Property for Lease:

  • Land Only
  • Land with TOTAL Standard Service Station built.

What are the criteria that TOTAL looks for in a property to be feasible for a service station?

  • Area - minimum area of 2,500 sq. m.
  • Frontage - minimum of 35 meters
  • Classification - Commercial or Industrial with no cavaet
  • Preferably in a commercial district or near residential area
  • Other restrictions or preferences to be inspected by Total’s Retail Developer

What is required to build a service station according to TOTAL standards and lease to TOTAL?

  • MOU with TOTAL  that a site is feasible for a Service Station
  • Layout of the Station approved by TOTAL’s engineering and Retail Developer
  • Tentative Construction Plan
  • Periodic vetting by TOTAL Engineers on construction as per TOTAL Standards and norms.
